Food and Supplies
Food Donations
As in the time of the Buddha, the monastery doesn’t grow or buy food and therefore is completely dependent on daily alms and donations of food. Please call the Monks Residence prior to donating food items to inquire about which specific things are currently needed. Kitchen needs change frequently and this is particularly the case with fresh food. We would encourage you to Check the wish list.
Meal Offering The monastics eat one main meal a day in late morning and the monastic regulations require that they finish by midday. If you would like to make an offering for the meal, please call in advance if possible also you can arrange monks to go out for lunch.
Offering a Meal
at the Monastery Offering food to the monastic community provides an opportunity to visit and participate in the lifestyle of the monastery. A simple menu is fine, but do remember that it is the only meal for the day. You may feel awkward preparing food in someone else's kitchen. If that is the case, it may be easier if you've prepared the main dish ahead of time. If you are interested in offering a meal please call the Monks Residence to reserve your day.
Offering Goods and Supplies
The monastic code requires the sangha to be dependent upon the lay community for all their physical needs. Besides food, If you are planning to visit the Monks Residence and would like to bring either food offerings or useful supplies, you can check the current list of needed items by checking the Wish List.
Dana (Donation)
“Why should I help?”
“How much does it cost to come to a retreat?”
“There is no fee. Retreats are held solely on Dana based”
“What do you mean there is no fee, Dana base? How do you operate?"
We are frequently asked “what is the suggested donation for our retreats organized by TripleGem Of The North ?” We cannot answer that question because that would be like setting a price for something that is priceless. The Buddha’s teachings are priceless, therefore we cannot set a specific price for our teachings. Therefore, we offer our service solely on Dana basis. So what is dana? Its simplest meaning is “generosity.”
Our Monks practice dana by offering the teachings to others without a price tag. You can practice dana by making a donation of money, time and/or labor. Your donation allows us to continue offering the teachings to others. This Monks residence and other servicers were built and is maintained only by the generosity of all of you who value the teachings.
Along with sila (virtuous behavior) dana is considered essential to building a strong foundation in which wisdom can arise through meditation. It is through the practice of dana that we learn to let go of our greed (our greed can be intense or very subtle).
Our effort is support the mankind, and our expectation is to share internal peace with every heart that we can touch. If you would like to offer a financial donation to fulfill our effort please may use the link below:
If you would like to offer any other kinds of dana, please contact the Triplegem Of The North.
