As you know, your practice improves greatly when you have the opportunity to take part in a group meditation at the Mindfulness Center. We also know that children benefit if they start meditation practice. In fact, some studies of elementary-aged children suggest that a regular mindfulness practice reduces stress and impulsivity. But parents may be reluctant to bring their young ones to group meditation. After all, no one wants to be disruptive!
On Sundays at 3 pm, starting Oct. 16, The Mindfulness Center will offer a family meditation session. These session will guide the young people through the basics of meditation. As parents can participate alongside them, they can pick up teaching techniques they can use at a home practice. And if your child doesn’t take to it, this is a low-stakes, low-pressure environment. (But we think you may be pleasantly surprised by their capabilities!) Children of all ages and their caretakers are welcome. If you have questions, contact Bhante Sathi at [email protected].
