“The Buddhist Path,” course 1

When: Every Saturdays, September 2, 9, 16, 23 at 3pm-4.30pm

Description:

The study of the Buddha’s teachings is essential to the Buddhist practice, and the aim of this course is to acquaint students with key teachings from the Pali Canon. Suited for all traditions, students learn about the practice and values of Buddhism.

Outline

  • Metta Sutta: practicing friendliness, Ratana Sutta: practice noble qualities, Mangala Sutta: practicing a wise lifestyle ,Meththanisansa Sutta: finding a good friend.
  • Selected teachings about meditation and mindfulness
  • Teachings about daily practice.

We will study the Buddha’s search for enlightenment as a guide to our own journey on the path. We’ll also cover his first sermon when he set out the basic principles of the Way. All reading materials and class notes will be provided.

Requirements:

A minimum of 6 months of group meditation practice at Triple Gem of the North. (However, if you have practiced 6 months or longer at a different center, you may provide a letter of recommendation from your teacher.)

Recommended reading:

Materials will be provided.

Fee: Recommended donation is $120. This course is free for sustaining members of TGN (those who donate $1,200 or more annually).

Fridays 7pm on Sep 15,22, 29th and Oct 6th

Description:

The study of the Buddha’s teachings is essential to the Buddhist practice, and the aim of this course is to acquaint students with key teachings from the Pali Canon. Suited for all traditions, students learn about the practice and values of Buddhism.

Outline

  • “Noble Search” described in the Ariyapariyesana Sutta
  • Wheel of Dhamma “Dhammachakka pawattana sutta”
  • Teachings about the universe and living beings
  • Teachings on Meditation (satipattana sutta/ kayanupassana/ anapanasathi)

We will study the Buddha’s search for enlightenment as a guide to our own journey on the path, and his first sermon when he set out the basic principles of the Way. All reading and class notes will be provided.

Completion of Course 1
Fee: Recommended donation is $120. This course is free for sustaining members for TGN (Sustaining members are those who donate $1,200 or more annually).
