Something has happened that is quite unthinkable to most people, but it in the Sri Lankan village of Maradankadawala, it has. Unlike other international calamities that bring wildfires, earthquakes and tsunamis, this one hasn’t made headlines across the globe. All the same, this change has put the health and safety of 900 men, women and children – addition to that include 450 primary school students — in harm’s way. They have lost access to their supply of fresh, clean water.
In recent years, this area has adopted westernized agricultural practices, and while they are effective in increasing yields and feeding families, these chemicals have unfortunately leached into the water supply, contaminating the water and rendering it unsafe to drink.
But for more than a year, the noble and caring friends of Triple Gem of the North has joined forces with others to restore safe drinking water to these villagers. With your support, along with that of a generous couple from the Nathaniel Meditation Center in Florida and the Rapunlena Forest Monastery, we are a few steps away from reaching our goal.
In January, 2017, the new filtration has been purchased. Our fundraising efforts is raise $15,000 to cover the materials. To give the friends of the village more time to raise money, the firm that manufactured the filter has agreed to go forward with installing it. Once the bill is settled, clean and safe water will once again start flowing for the 900 residents and students by the end of the month.
It is gratifying to see this long-awaited project arrive at this point of near-completion. But we still need help from you. Whatever amount you can afford to give, you can be assured your gift will make a profound difference in the daily routines of hundreds of people.
Please send your donation today to Triple Gem of the North, 212 N Chestnut St, Chaska MN 55318. As always, if you have any questions, contact us at [email protected]
Thank you and much metta to you for your generosity.
We have made good progress as of today; much gratitude for Nathaniel Meditation Center in FL, for making a significant donation. We have raised $8100 by today (March 10th, 2017).
Support a Child
The concept of parents being unable to support their child financially with school needs and clothing is a troublesome but very real issue. Triple Gem of the North is proud to take active action with these families’ time of need by allowing you to sponsor a child in Sri Lanka. With your generosity of 20 dollars per month for one year you will be able to help a Sri Lankan child afford necessities like school supplies and clothing. The entirety of your 20 dollars per month will be donated to a child ten years of age or younger. You may also choose to pay for the year in full for $240 which would help the expenses reach their maximum benefit to the sponsored child for the year. The child that you will be sponsoring will most likely be a student with adequate grades and in desperate need of school supplies. The child will also belong to a single parent or a large family in a rural area in Sri Lanka.
